The company is now gearing up to introduce the fourth model, which is set to come next year with an OLED display borrowed from the iPhone 14.
Next iPhone SE To Launch in 2025 with OLED Screen
According to new information from Korea (TheElec), the iPhone SE will arrive in 2025. For the first time, this affordable lineup will get an OLED screen. All the previous iPhone SE models arrived in the market featuring LCD panels, and now it’s time for this lineup to make a remarkable step into OLED. However, the next iPhone SE will not adopt the Dynamic Island design with punch-hole cutouts. Instead, we are going to see the same NOtch design seen in the iPhone 14.
The new information states that three display makers are currently competing for Apple’s orders for the next iPhone SE. Samsung is offering the lowest price per panel at $30. BOE is offering a price of $35, while Tianma surprisingly went for $40. None have won the contract year, As Apple is offering just $20 per panel, so the negotiations are still ongoing.
The panels used in the next iPhone SE will be similar to those seen in the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14. The 2025 iPhone SE will retain a 6.1-inch screen with 2,532 x 1,170 pixels of resolution. There will also be a 1,200-nit peak brightness and Ceramic Shield glass on top. However, we can’t discard some cost-cutting measures to reduce the price of the next handset. After all, this device will be offered outside of the premium iPhone lineup.

Samsung Display, BOE, and Tianma are competing for the display supply
Samsung Display and BOE have secured good yields for these panels. Tianma, on the other hand, is not likely to be a serious contender. Its tech lags behind the competition, and honestly, we don’t think its quality will meet Apple’s standards. Samsung has some advantages apart from the price. The company was making the iPhone 14 displays so it can continue, or even use the existing inventory for the iPhone SE. The giant can also afford to go low for the iPhone SE in a bid to snub BOE. It can make more profits off of the panels for the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 series. Meanwhile, BOE needs all the additional orders it can get. After all, the company lost a good opportunity to increase its OLED panel production when it faced difficulties making the iPhone 15 panels. As a response, Apple had to move some of its orders to Samsung.
iPhone SE (2025) will be the next notched iPhone
There are still several months ahead of the launch of the new iPhone SE, we expect more details to keep popping up in the next months. Nowadays, we get most of the details of new iPhone smartphones ahead of their release. In any case, Apple fans shouldn’t expect a cheaper iPhone model this year. Furthermore, it’s interesting to see that the next iPhone SE will keep the notch design seen since the iPhone X days. With the iPhone 15 series, Apple embraced the new design language with punch-hole cutouts (dynamic island) for all iPhones. For now, the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus are the last ones with the notch design. This year, the iPhone 16 series will keep the punch-hole design. In the end, the next iPhone SE will keep the tradition of the series of being an interesting look at the company’s past design.
