We still have at least eight years to the commercialization of the 6G communication network. However, there are a couple of information regarding the 6G communication network already. For instance, South Korea plans to launch the 6G communication prototype in 2026. Furthermore, MediaTek has already defined its three principles of 6G while China has since conformed that 6G will be commercial in 2030. Regarding when the next-generation communication technology will be commercialized, it is generally believed in the industry that 2030 will be a key node. In this area, Huawei has a strong say.
On April 27, at the Smart World 2030 Forum, Gai Gang, President of Huawei’s ICT Strategy and Business Development Department, said that by 2030, the computing industry will have breakthroughs in some aspects. According to him, the Huawei 6G Communication network will have improvements in these six areas
- Physical layer
- Intelligent cognition
- Diverse computing
- Endogenous security
- Multi-dimensional computing
He also claims that by 2030, the digital world and the physical world will integrate seamlessly. Furthermore, computing will have the ability to simulate, restore, and enhance the physical world.
In fact, until today, the boundary between computer networks and communication networks has been blurred. Computer network focuses on the five-layer architecture including
- Physical layer
- Datalink layer
- Network layer
- Transport layer
- Application layer
It also includes switch and router technology, such as local area networks, wide area networks, etc., which all refer to computer networks. On the other hand, the communication network focuses on
- Transmission efficiency of information such as mobile communication networks, satellite communication networks and so on
If there is a breakthrough in the computer network, there may also be progress in the communication network.
6G communication network commercialization
In the past, many Chinese experts believed that 6G technology may be commercially available in 2030. Some experts believe that 6G is an improvement of 5G technology, which is divided into two parts: the first step is 5.5G, and the second step is 6G. Samsung said in its white paper that 6G could be commercially available as early as 2028.
China is leading in the research and development of the latest 5G communication network. However, the Asian nation has no intention of stopping at 5G. At the 2021 Technology Billboard Conference held recently, Wang Jianzhou, the former chairman of China Mobile and senior consultant of the Global Mobile Communications Association, delivered a keynote speech. Wang Jianzhou said, “When we are building 5G, 6G has already begun. By 2030, the 6G network will be commercially available. Now we need to speed up the definition and research and development of 6G.”
