Apple held its annual WWDC conference a few hours ago. In addition to the release of new operating systems such as iOS 16 and iPadOS 16, it also launched MacBook Air and MacBook Pro equipped with M2 chips. At the same time, Apple also quietly listed on the official website some accessories. The company now has previously rumored 35W dual Type-C port chargers on its shelves. It is worth mentioning that both chargers come with a 399 yuan ($60) price tag. However, these chargers do not come with charging cables. This means that users will have to buy the charging cables separately.
Apple’s official website describes the two chargers as follows “Whether at home, in the office, or on the go, this 35W dual USB-C port small power adapter allows you to easily charge two devices at the same time. It’s small and exquisite, and the plug can be folded for easy portability and storage”.
In addition, Apple says “this power adapter is recommended for use with the MacBook Air. You can also use it to charge your iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and AirPods.”
In terms of compatibility, the charger supports iPhone 8/iPhone 8 Plus and above It also supports all Apple Watch series, iPad mini 5/6, iPad 7/8/9, iPad Air 3/4/5, 11-inch iPad Pro, 12.9-inch iPad Pro, etc.
Would you spend 399 yuan ($60) to buy an Apple dual-C port charger that supports 35W charging power and does not include a charging cable?
How reasonable is the price?
When it comes to the reasonability of Apple’s pricing, there are usually mixed feelings. The “unreasonable” price of Apple’s various peripheral products has become the consensus of consumers. These two $60 chargers have once again become evidence of this view. The two new 35W dual USB Type-C chargers sell for 399 yuan ($60) and there is no bonus.
According to Apple, these two chargers allow users to easily charge two devices at the same time, and the smaller one also uses a foldable plug. In terms of compatibility, these two pumps support most of Apple’s mobile devices. It also supports all MacBook Airs from 2018, including the 2022 release.
This means that if you want to equip your 2022 MacBook Air with an additional set of official charging equipment, you will have a 399 yuan ($60) charger and a 340 yuan ($51) charging cable in front of you. Thus, the total price for the accessory is 739 yuan ($111). In all honesty, it feels more like a rip-off if you have to spend an extra $111 after buying a device. More so, both the charging kit and the device are from the same company.
